Vanessa has been dancing since the age of 8 years old with a primary focus in ballet, pointe and contemporary modern. She recently transferred from University of Iowa to UMKC to continue a bachelor’s degree in dance as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology with focus in neuroscience. Vanessa studied ballet, modern at Iowa State University with a special study in Bharatanatyam, an Indian classical dance style, with Suparna Banerjee. She left school to jump on an opportunity for a backstage position as a theater and live production manager based out of Iowa for the next 11 years working on projects for touring productions, films and live concerts including “Cats”, Cirque Du Soleil, Peter Frampton, The Rockettes, and many more.
During this time, she also taught a variety of styles including ballet, pointe, acro, hip hop, conditioning, lyrical, modern and private lesson conditioning from 2013-2017 for ages preschool to adult. Vanessa is now a returning collegiate student since 2017 working towards integrating dance and science to bring the best of both worlds to the dance community as well as to the medical community. Recently she has studied ballet and modern for 2 years at University of Iowa with emphases on Graham, Horton, Forsyth, and release techniques in contemporary modern as well as a combination of contemporary, French, Vaganova, Cecchetti, and Bournonville
methods in ballet.
